Two alumni of the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering - Dong-Hyuk Shin and Santosh Hemchandra - have joined the academic research community, accepting faculty positions in aerospace engineering at two respected universities.

Dong-Hyuk Shin, Ph.D. AE '12, accepted a faculty position at his undergraduate alma mater, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a national research university in Daedeok Innopolis, South Korea. While at Tech, Shin worked with AE professor Timothy Lieuwen on identifying, quantifying and predicting mechanisms of flame response subject to disturbances. His resulting doctoral thesis, Premixed Flame Kinematics in a Harmonically Oscillating Velocity Field was published in 2012. Most recently, Shin has been a lecturer on internal combustion engines in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. He will begin his new appointment in Korea in July, 2019.

Also a student of Prof. Lieuwen's, Santosh Hemchandra has recently been promoted to the rank of associate professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, where he has taught since 2012. Prior to joining that faculty, Hemchandra had a post-doctoral appointment at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) in Germany. At Tech, his doctoral thesis, Dynamics of Turbulent Premixed Flames in Acoustic Fields was published in 2009.
